Even with this limitation, psychoanalysis can still be considered legitimate. Therapists do not rely on a single interpretation but instead look for repeated patterns in a client's thoughts, feelings, and relationships over time. Techniques such as free association and examining transference can help reveal deeper issues that are consistent, which supports the usefulness of this approach (Corey, 2021). The relationship between the therapist and client also provides valuable insight into the client's internal experiences. The contemporary two-person psychology model improves this approach by recognizing that both the therapist and the client influence the counseling process. Instead of viewing the therapist as completely objective, this model accepts that the therapist's reactions and perspectives are part of the work. Therapists are encouraged to reflect on their own responses, known as counter transference, and use this awareness to better understand the client (Mitchell & Black, 2016).This makes psychoanalytic work more collaborative and realistic. It also increases trust in the process because the therapist's role is more transparent and self-aware, rather than being seen as the only expert. Overall, while traditional psychoanalysis has some limitations due to subjectivity, it is still useful.
