Frequently there is mixed, circular use of the terms and definitions for "data", "information" and "knowledge". Information systems support information; but what is not so obvious when you dig beneath the surface, is the answer to the question, "What is information?". Definitions of information vary; information is subjective.
Everyone in the world is NOT going to suddenly stop using these words interchangeably. What is important is to be able to identify the various hues in the meaning of information and recognize when the data/information/knowledge becomes actionable!
