The purpose:
The purpose of this Qualitative study is to investigate the experiences of employees in non-profit organizations as they facilitate social connectedness among African refugees. It examines how these employees perceive their roles, utilize their skills, and apply cultural understanding to develop and strengthen social support networks for African refugees. While existing literature frequently addresses the challenges faced by African refugees, social connectedness remains fundamental to their well-being. African refugees often encounter barriers such as cultural differences, language obstacles, and systemic challenges that contribute to social isolation. Insufficient social connectedness significantly impacts mental health, increasing the risk of depression, anxiety, and social withdrawal. Strengthening social connections can improve access to community resources, employment opportunities, and social support, all of which are critical for successful integration into a new country. Although previous studies, including those by Nguyen et al. (2024) and Baillot et al. (2023), have emphasized the importance of social networks and psychosocial interventions, there is a lack of detailed examination regarding the facilitatory roles of non-profit staff within social support networks.
Tentative Population or Target: The study's population comprises employees of non-profit organizations that provide support services to African refugees in the Northeastern United States. This group includes individuals in direct service roles, program coordinators, and organizational leaders who interact with African refugees through a range of support activities.
