For your final project introduce one chinese film that we

Project Assignment

Length: 5-6 pages, double-spaced.

For your final project, introduce one Chinese film that we have not studied in class and compare it with one film that we have studied in class. There should be some meaningful connections between the two films: for example, they might be from the same film director but manifest the different stages of her or his filmmaking; they might deal with similar issues (ex. the suffering of women, the plight of the workers, the tension between love and revolution, etc.) but from different perspectives; or they might use similar cinematic techniques (long takes, long shots, voice-over narration, etc.) but for different purposes or with different effects. Please provide a synopsis of the film that you want to introduce (no more than one page)at the beginning of your essay. The rest of your essay should focus on your readings of the films that you want to compare. Your essay should have a title and a coherent argument. It should be clearly organized and grammatically correct. You may consult secondary studies but you are not required to. You should pay close attention to both the story elements (plot, character, etc.) and the language of film (mise-en-scène, editing, sound, cinematography, etc.) and support your readings with concrete evidence from the films.
