Section 6.4 includes the recommendation that the velocity of flow in discharge lines of fluid power systems be in the range 7-25 ft/s. The average of these values is 16 ft/s. Design a spreadsheet to determine the inside diameter of the discharge line to achieve this velocity for any design volume flow rate. Then, refer to Appendix G.1 to specify a suitable steel tube, using the largest of the given wall thicknesses for any size because of the high pressures used in fluid power systems. For the selected tube, compute the actual velocity of flow when carrying the design volume flow rate.
