Truth and Fairness Essay
For the final major assignment, you will write a creative nonfiction response to an issue that affects you personally or holds special meaning for you, with the goal of discovering or exploring a "true" and "fair" resolution with a feasible and workable solution. You will research outside material to use in supporting your claims as well as utilize all the methods for writing nonfiction that have been covered in class so far (narration, dialogue, pacing, description, setting, tone). In essence, a creative nonfiction response to a real-world problem or issue.
For example, you may have strong feelings about a location that was special to you as a child, and is now being razed and developed as high-rise apartments. You might be inspired to research other creative nonfiction works that explore the authors' feelings about special locales and cite them to provide emotional depth and verisimilitude to your own paper. Any writing form is OK--epistolary, memoir, stream-of-consciousness, etc.
