For the assigned Persuasive Essay, students will research and persuade a change in their city to city council members. Students will begin by researching the topic in local publications. From there, they will select one specific topic of change that they believe will be positive, which interests them, and they would like to research further. Please keep in mind, this must be a well-researched topic and must have concrete evidence to support their proposal.
The essay must be 800-900 word, have 5 sources to support the research, be in MLA format, and have a work's cited page according to MLA guidelines. Students can include 2 open web source and 3 library resources. Any essays that do not adhere to MLA guidelines will have an automatic deduction of 10 points.
