For each breth that a person takes there is a new boundary

For each breth that a person takes, there is a new boundary that develops(@ each bifurcation in the lung). By using an aerosolized drug during inspiration (diffusion coefficient in air = 0.01 cm2/sec), we are able to characterize its mass transfer to the walls of the lung. Given: peak flow rate~ 500 ml/sec.

a) Determine in which generations of the lung an assumption of fully developed velocity profiles (Poiseuille flow) would be reasonable.

b) Determine in which generations of the lung, an assumption of fully developed concentration profiles would be reasonable.

c) Determine in which generations diffusion dominates transport and in which generations convection is important.
