For 196 nations, the United Nations Human Development Index ranks countries by GDP per capita and by "human development" based on health, education, income, and many other categories.

  1. In the alphabetical listings of all countries,locate two different countries and compare the data identified for each country.
  2. Use the data provided to explain in a summary why each country is ranked in the different categories.

Your summary should be three to five paragraphs in length. Below are instructions to help you complete this with ease.

  1. Go to theUnited Nations Human Development Index.
  2. On the banner across the top, Click on the box, "Country Profiles".
  • This will show a world map from which you can select your two countries or you can select from the listing of all countries alphabetically from A to Z below the map.
  • Identify two countries for comparison.
    • If you locate a county that has "n/a" in many of the categories, then select a different country.

Once you have selected your first country, then click on the box, "Expand All". There you will find data provided in all of these categories: Health, Education, Income, Inequality, Poverty, Gender, and Sustainability. In your summary, you should discuss for each of your two countries the ranking of the country you have chosen, your information found on that country and your interpretation of why you feel that country might be ranked the way they are.

You must cite your references properly according to MLA or APA guidelines.  Even if the source is mentioned in the assignment instructions, you still need to cite and include it within your document.
