The focus of this research study was dedicated to the family members that were responsible for the suicidal/depressed individual. It gave the readers an inside look at their efforts to properly maintain their care for the suicidal individual.

The study is trying to give the readers a picture of how family members are coping and over exerting themselves to help the needy individuals. The study is trying to prove that mental health care professionals are not providing enough to diminish the overwhelming effects of the family members. It moved on to say that these days the burden of caring for the suicidal individual and their safety relied solely on the family member or members.

Thus, emphasizing that the mental health professionals have assumed a lesser responsibility? The author came to this conclusion because of her findings that mental health services have been recently limited due to the strict management of the healthcare system to cut costs.

This reduction of costs led to the depressed or suicidal individual to stay fewer days in the hospital getting treated and caused the existence of suicidal symptoms to remain at the time of discharge to the families (Nosek, 2008). Could mental health care professionals prevent a healthy family member in becoming an unhealthy family caretaker?
