Find the reduced levels of grid point showing calculation

Aim - To demonstrate the fundamentals of surveying use of surveying instruments.

Objective - To assess the student knowledge and skill in theory and practical applications:
- Linear Surveying
- Traverse Surveying
- Practice with Total Station
- Calculation of Earthwork Areas and Volumes
- Acquaintance with Laboratory Reports Preparation

Task 1: Assignme nt Problem:

For the proposed road construction, a land area of 600m x 600m was surveyed and levels were taken on a square grid of 100m x 100m. Grid columns are marked as from A to G and rows are marked as 1 to 7. At each grid point level is observed and are as shown in following table. Take of Benchmark as last three digits of your student ID. Proposed road starts from grid point G1 and ends at grid point A7. At points G1, F2, E3, D4, C5, B6 and A7 cross section observations are taken at 10m and 20m on left and right hand side of centre-line from G1 to A7.

(i) Find the reduced levels of grid point showing calculation for each grid point and apply the arithmetic checks.

(ii) Draw the Grid on A-3 size graph paper. Plot Contours at 1m interval with a suitable scale showing the relevant data

(iii) Evaluate Formation Levels along a profile with a rising gradient of 1 in 275. Take formation level at G1 as last three digits of your student ID. Proposed road has rising gradient of 1 in 275 from G1 to A7.

(iv) Draw Longitudinal profile from G1 to A7 on A3 size graph sheet showing distance, Ground level, Formation level, Height of Banking,
Depth of cutting.

(v) Construct the Cross Sections at points G1, F2, E3, D4, C5, B6 and A7 with a suitable scale taking the formation width as 40m and the with a side slope of 45° for cutting and embankment both.

(vi) Calculate cross-sectional area at points G1, F2, E3, D4, C5, B6 and A7.

(vii) Side slopes of embankments are proposed to be grassed. Calculate the area to be grassed.

(viii) Calculate volume of cutting and volume of embankment for the proposed road profile.
