Problem:

A building has dimensions of 100 ft x 35 ft and a steel pipe will be attached to the bottom chord of the roof truss at its midpoint. This pipe will be used as part of the plumbing/mechanical system of the building. The inner radius of the pipe is 2" and the wall thickness is 1/4". Assume that the pipe will be carrying water.

Required:

Question 1: Find the area and volume of the pipe and the amount of water the pipe can carry?

Question 2: What is the total force of the water on the truss system of the building?
