Find online job postings in your profession. Search for job postings in your field that have online applications. Select one based on your interests.
Prepare your résumé. Update your résumé with your professional skills, any certifications, experience with any profession-specific or general office tools such as Word, and your educational information. Gear your résumé toward the profession you are currently studying. (If you are volunteering, be sure to include your volunteer experience.)
Practice the online application process by comparing your résumé's content (such as education and experience) against the fields of the online job application. Do not submit your online application, just review the information that the company asked for to check whether your résumé contains everything required. Identify gaps in your résumé based on this practice.
Submit:
- Write a one-page paper that explains the gaps you found and a plan for addressing these gaps. You might realize that you have experience related to your profession from an old position and that you can migrate that information to your résumé. Identify the gap, find a good solution using research and advice, and describe how you will fill the gap so that your résumé is ready when you graduate.
- Submit your résumé and plan to your instructor, who will grade the paper and offer feedback on the résumé.
