A quartz sphere of 20mm diameter is pressed into a flat thick carbon steel plate with a force of 5 N. Find the maximum shear stress and normal stress for the sphere and the plate, and state where the maximum shear stresses occur in each body. Assume that for quartz, E= 500 Gpa and v= 0.15.
