Find best location in swing to strike ball-spring is unwound

A team of students is developing a batting machine. It is composed of a bat length L and mass mt. It is to strike a ball of mass mb that has a speed S at impact with the bat. the bat is attached to a pin joint at its end and is restrained by a torsional spring of constant K (units of force-length/radian). The bat swings in a plane. There is constant dry friction causing an opposing torque T at the pin joint. The coefficient of restitution of the bat-ball system is er. Determine: A) The best location in the swing to strike the ball. Assume the spring is unwound when its angle is zero and the machine only allows a rotation of 180 degrees. B) The best location along the bat to strike the ball, this should examine both the balls speed after impact and the load on the pin joint of the machine.
