Business Letter Assignment

The purpose of this assignment is to practice and refine your business writing skills in the business letter format. Specifically, you will write a cover letter for a job application.

Directions:

1. Find an advertisement for a job you would be interested in applying. The job advertisement should be in a format that you can easily submit with your business letter (e.g., newspaper cutting, printout from online job search).

2. Use the business letter format and writing guidelines we discussed in class. For formatting and organization, refer to pages 168 to 183 of your textbook. You may use any of the three standard formats we discussed in class: full-block, modified-block, or semi-block.

3. For content, review page 298 to 307 for writing a letter of application. Your letter should be in response to the job advertisement you've chosen.

4. The body of your letter should be a minimum of 300 words, not including the heading.

5. All letters must be typed. Handwritten letters will not be accepted.
