The links below are for Computer Networks - ARPANET, from 1972, chronicling the development of computer networks, which preceded the official advent of the internet in 1983. A network can be seen as a miniaturized version of the internet. Today, the internet is comprised of many networks. In other words, it is a vast network of networks.
answer the following qouestions :
1. In Computer Networks - ARPANET, 1972, one of the programmers compares a computer network to that of a cluster of cities in communication with one another, while a computer by itself is much like a city developing by itself. What point is he trying to get across by making these comparisons, and do you agree with his point? What are the advantages of cities/computers that can communicate openly with one another?
2. We almost always model objects after the human body or things that we find in nature. Throughout the movie we see programmers drawing out the structure of simple networks to depict the way in which information circulates. If you could imagine a drawing of the entire internet, what systems, things, places in nature could it possibly look like? Find a picture of something in nature that functions like the internet, post it to yourblog, and explain why you think the two things visually relate. There are no right or wrong answers, but please explain your decisions in detail.
