Financial viability of the bridge of allan copper mine

Assignment: You have been asked as a project management consultant to help AMC assess whether the Bridge of Allan copper mine is financially viable and recommend a project plan. You should produce a report for the AMC Board of Directors in time for its next meeting on 10 January 2020, so that if approved the development of the mine can start as soon as possible. The report should provide:

  • A complete project plan illustrating the logic of the project and identifying the dates for milestones;
  • An assessment of the project's financial viability, assuming the best estimates for the price of copper;
  • An exploration of the effects of changes in the copper price to assess whether the project's viability is very dependent on the copper price;
  • An analysis of any options for the design of the project;
  • Any other points to be raised that may impact the decision, the development of the mine and its exploitation;
  • A concluding chapter that lists enumerates all main findings of the points above, states all decisions (and their impact) to be taken by the board and all other recommendations that are relevant to the development of the mine and its exploitation.

Sensible approximations should be made where appropriate. The report should be written using guidelines for reporting (see Appendix) and be no longer than 2,500 words (excluding figures, tables, list of references and appendices). Include a section in the final chapter summarizing possible further studies that you would recommend to provide a more complete assessment.

Requirements of the Assignment:

The report must follow the generic guidelines and appropriate citation guidelines. The report should meet up the stated requirements to be considered for marking:

1) The main body of text does not exceed 2,500 words; a word count should be provided on the title page. The front matter, the figures, the tables, the list of references and the appendices are not included in the word count.

2) The underpinning of the report should be based on academic textbooks and academic journal articles. At least one textbook about project management should be used. In addition, the report should cite three academic journal articles relevant to project management.

3) The report should be written without using the first person ('I') or any of its substitutes (such as 'the author'). Moreover, the report should display competence in written English to a professional standard, demonstrate fluency in the language of the research domain and show logical reasoning.

4) The individual data set for a report (see Section 6) must be displayed in an appendix to the report.
