B301 B: Making Sense of Strategy II
Second Semester 2013 – 2014
The assignment is to select a “SUCCESSFUL INDUSTRY” in your home country (or other country ONLY if your tutor agrees) and accordingly study the following, in order to critically consider and explain:
1) The domestic factor conditions of that industry. (20 marks; 600 words)
2) The Domestic Demand Conditions of the industry. (20 marks; 600 words)
3) The Related and Supporting Industries. (20 marks; 600 words)
4) Specific local characteristics about firms and the nature of competition in your chosen industry, including Strategy, Structure, and Rivalry. (20 marks; 600 words)
5) The role and/or importance of the government in supporting this industry? Support your answer with examples. (15 marks; 500 words)
What changes to current government support, if any, would you recommend could be adopted? (5 marks; 100 words)
General instructions for students:

Format: you are expected to write your answers in an essay format: introduction, body paragraph(s) and a conclusion. Failing to do so could result in the deduction of up to 5 marks from your total TMA mark.
Word count: your answers are expected to be within the specified word count. A 10% deviation from word count limit is acceptable. Not adhering to specified word count could result in the deduction of up to 5 marks of your total TMA mark.
Referencing: You are expected to use the Harvard referencing style for in-text referencing and list of reference at the end. Failing to do so could result in the deduction of up to 5 marks of your total TMA mark.
E-library: You are expected to use E-library sources to support your answers. A minimum of 3 sources is required. Failing to do so could result in the deduction of up to 5 marks of your total TMA mark.
