Factors that could contribute to atypical development

Your best friend has a 2-year-old son and she is going back to work full-time. She is looking for an affordable, quality childcare program in her area but is considering the program from the video, even though it is well outside of her price range. She is afraid her son is developmentally delayed because he can't kick a ball by himself and doesn't share very well. He has a very limited vocabulary and prefers to spend his time watching television, which he does for several hours every day. He learned to crawl at 8 months but didn't learn to walk until 16 months. He doesn't like to play on the playground or any other active games that involve gross motor skills. She is concerned that he will only get further behind if doesn't attend the school in the video. Write a two- to three-page letter to her and describe:

  1. Three things she should look for in a childcare environment that supports his development.
  2. Three factors that could contribute to atypical development at this age.
  3. Your assessment of whether or not the child may exhibit a developmental delay (be sure to note signs of a possible developmental delay, bearing in mind that teachers themselves cannot diagnose disabilities).
  4. Share your opinion about whether the preschool in the video is necessary to ensure her child's academic success and healthy development.

This paper must be two to three double-spaced pages in length, and formatted according to APA style. You must reference the textbook and make use of at least two scholarly sources.
