For every thinker covered in the second half of the course, equality is a central value and a necessary condition for the establishment of a legitimate political association. Yet the meaning and purpose of equality is understood differently for the various approaches emerging in the modern period. Explore the meaning and significance of equality in the theories of two of the following: Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau, Wollstonecraft or Marx.
