This 6-8 page paper is an application-based assignment in which you will apply concepts learned about racism and oppression throughout the semester to envision and develop a proposed action plan to explore what you as a social worker can do to address issues of racism in your agency, your community, or the society at large.

(It is understood that you will not be able to implement your plan at this time). You can focus on the micro (clinical), meso (agency/organization; community), and/or macro (policy; advocacy; social work education, societal) levels. Some ideas include, but are not limited to:

• A racial justice audit of your social work agency or current place of employment.

• Design a racial justice professional development program for your agency.

• Develop a racial justice social action project for your community.

• Examine a contemporary racial justice movement (ie - Black Lives Matters, Showing Up for Racial Justice, etc.), and how to incorporate those perspectives into your social work practice.

• Examine other contemporary social justice movements (ie - Occupy, environmental, LGBT, women, etc.) in terms of how those movement are or are not incorporating racial justice into their work, and offer recommendations, and implications for social work.

• Explore the dynamics of race/racism in one or more of your cases (current or past) and identify approaches grounded in racial justice and culturally proficiency.

Your action plan should include:

1. Rationale - why you are choosing to examine and address this particular issue, situation, or case, and why it is important to social work practice.

2. Stakeholders - who or what is affected by and/or concerned with issues related to this action plan; who or what are you trying to impact (be specific and include racial/ethnic demographics).

3. Desired Outcomes - what you hope to achieve with this action plan

4. Action steps -specific action steps to achieve your desired outcomes 5. Timeline - anticipated time needed for implementation and completion of each element

6. Responsibility center - who is responsible for each aspect of implementation?

7. Resources needed - human, financial, etc.

8. Accountability - how will progress/success be measured? SW409 Dynamics Of Racism And Oppression 34 You are expected to utilize relevant concepts, models and research (i.e. racial identity development, multicultural organizational change models, the 4 I's of oppression, community organizing strategies, etc.) to evaluate the issue of concern and develop an action plan for addressing it.
