Explore the community corrections field

Assignment:

Professor for my research paper topic I have decided to go with the privatization of prisons. In this paper I will be discussing what led to privatized prisons being established and if they are beneficial to the correction system. With respect to operating cost, privately operated prisons can reduce expenditures in those markets in which public employee benefit rates are relatively high in comparison to national rates (Austin, Coventry, 2001).

Another reason why I decided to go with this topic is because of all the controversy surrounding these facilities. There are numerous allegations for example, of mistreatment of prisoners, understaffed facilities, and poor oversight by outside agencies to ensure the safety and security of the inmates and staff. I will be looking into what has been done to correct these types of issues and what will be the way ahead for these facilities.
