Whether positively or negatively, how and why might we think about social media and new technology in terms of social transformation?

The text I am using is "Social Media and New Technology" by Marjorie Hogan. The author argues (mainpoint) that social media and new technology are a negative form of social transformation.
"Explore some possible problems with the concept or, at least, what may be some alternatives to the concept and why"
I am especially confused by this question. Am I supposed to find a positive form of social transformation? and argue against the author's main point?
