Writing affects most every part of our lives. In this paper I want you to explore and incorporate the subject matter analyzed in class as well as how you have grown a writer and thinker.
To simplify my expectations, I want the paper to address these three specific areas of your life:
Academic: Certainly we can find many aspects of our studies affected by our writing skills. How does it affect your work in other courses? Can you form a logical argument? Can you assess the writings of others more effectively? Can you express a solid thesis in various essay questions? Can you support that thesis with sound points?
Personal: How are you better able to express yourself? Are you better at proving a point? Arguing? Explaining complexities? Writing letters? Being objective?
Professional: Most of you are in college in the hopes of embarking on a professional career. How will those skills aid you in the work place? What impression will coworkers have of you when you speak properly and write well? What if you do not? Are poor writing and speaking skills a detriment at the office?
I also want you to take look at what you've learned regarding your own writing: strengths and weaknesses, usage, organization, confidence, etc.
Also, explore the different readings that were assigned, the topics regarding:
• Ethnicity
• Bigotry
• Racial identity
• What you learned about your writing
• The class discussions
• The grammar exercises
• The use of the Internet
• Racism in Ads
• Stereotypes in film
• All Souls
