Explore a research question focused on workforce burnout

Assignment:

Read your peers' threads and provide encouragement to build community.

Jason

This week, I have been able to explore a research question focused on workforce burnout experienced by Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesiologists (CRNAs) and physician anesthesiologists. The topic explores the phenomenon of burnout among these practitioners and how it contributes to the shortage in the U.S. healthcare workforce. Through this process, literature has established relationships between burnout prevalence rates, poor care delivery, high turnover rates, and lack of access to healthcare services.

The primary challenge I faced was that the bulk of research on burnout among the healthcare workforce over the last five years has focused mainly on Registered Nurses (RNs)and physicians. There is little literature on advanced practice nurses and physician specialists. Therefore, to gain insight into the matter, I have broadened my search into more generalized research material focusing on burnout among medical practitioners.

Next week, I plan to conduct a thorough review of the literature to inform the genesis of my research question and resulting problem statement.

Current Project Topic

The Proposed Measurement Topic focuses on the relationship of job demands, including Workload, EHR/Administrative Burden, and Leadership Support, to the Performance of clinical staff, Burnout, Turnover Intention, and the Quality of Care provided to patients, at a mid-size hospital located in Atlanta, GA.

Current Progress This Week

I refined the development of the Case Study Methodology into a more comprehensive draft of a Business Case Study. I completed the Abstract, Introduction, Background, Problem Statement, and Research Questions, and have aligned these with the Professors'. The Professor agreed with the clarity of the stated Problem Statement as well as the quality of the Reference Sources. I expanded the Literature Review in the areas of Burnout, Organizational Support, Psychological Safety, and Technological Burden, and included a number of recently published Reference Sources. The Methods Section is now a description of Embedded Single Case Qualitative Design. I included descriptions of Purposive Sampling, Semi-Structured Interviews, Document Review, Observational Methods, Thematic Analysis, Member Checking, and the Audit Trail Plan.

Blockers and How I Am Addressing Them

1) The lack of recently published peer-reviewed articles and active DOI's: I am currently compiling and verifying additional 2022-2026 journal articles and will be putting them in with active DOIs. Need Assignment Help?

2) The level of detailed methods / procedures: The Professor stated that I provide a more detailed methodology (Sampling Quotas, Instrumentation, Timeline) in that section of my draft. I will finalizing my sample size selection and will identify a validated Burnout Instrument. I am also creating the IRB / pre-approval checklist that will be submitted.

3) Uncertainty regarding Site Access: I will begin to create a request for site access and a short template for an MOU to use as a tool for obtaining permission. If site access is delayed, then I will document my contingency plan to use comparative archival data.

Plans for Next Week

I am planning to find the required number of peer-reviewed articles with active DOI numbers, fulfill the participant quota and instruments cited, create an audit trail and triangulation plan, create a mind-map photo and story-board photo, review the originality and fluency of the drafts based on the professor's comments concerning run-on sentences, and create a final product that will be ready to submit to the course template for submission.
