From the website, I was able to look at many charts and graphs explaining the incarceration rates here in the U.S. when it comes to gender, women specifically, there has been an upsurge of women in prisons and jails. Based on the website, rural communities have a higher percentage of women in jails/prisons on a National and State level. As of 2022, there are 144 counties that have women in their facilities. From the notes, there is a list of reasons women may end up in jail whether it be because they were under the influence during the crime they committed, or they may have been sexually abused in their household growing up. While it unsure to tell why there are more and more women ending up in jails, we can still see that the numbers are growing.
We all know that there is discrimination still in correction facilities today. Based off the notes, judges are likely to sentence higher and raise bails due to the offender being of a minority. The data tool shows that of the minority and racial groups, those of color are incarcerated at higher rates than white people across the country. While the data tool shows an increase in incarceration rates for those of other ethnicities, the notes show that there are more white people in jail and than others. Yes, there may be more white people in jail, based on the notes, but how those of color are treated are far worse in correction facilities no matter the case against them. Need Assignment Help?
