Research Activity:
William Bradford's account describes how the Pilgrims adapted to life in New England. From the reading we learned how challenging it was for them to cross the ocean and settle into the unknown.
This activity asks you to place yourself in the hypothetical position of an adult person wanting to leave their homeland and move to another country. What would your experience be like?
Prompt:
A. Compose a brief paragraph that explains why you would like or need to leave your homeland. Are the reasons ideological? Economic? Political? Religious? Family-related? Other?
B. Choose the country to which you would like to immigrate. Compose a brief sentence or two on why you selected that country.
C. Research: Use the Internet to find out what that country's immigration policy is and what you need to do to make sure you are allowed entry. Most of this information can be obtained by googling the country's Consulate or Embassy. Be sure to include the citation from where you obtained the information (see Brazil example below).
D. Report your findings. In your opinion, how easy or difficulty will it be for you to achieve your goal(s)?
E. Reflection: What did you learn from this research activity? Based on what you learned, are your plans still the same or will you need to revise them?
