Explain why you would have supported party you identified

After learning about the development of the American government and political system (Chapter 6), answer the following question. Follow the directions carefully in order to receive full credit.

After the Revolutionary War, Americans quickly started creating their own government and political system. From this emerged the first two political parties: the Federalists and the Republicans (Remember- the Republican Party that exists today is not the same Republican Party that existed in the late 1700s). If you were an American with political rights in the late 1700s, would you have supported the Federalists or the Republicans or neither?

• Using information from the lecture/textbook, briefly describe the goals and platforms of the two parties: the Federalists and the Republicans. Make sure to explain what they thought about federal vs. state governments, what part of the nation and group of people the government should support and promote (cities vs. rural areas, merchants vs. farmers), and why the government should support and promote them.

• Clearly identify which political party you would have supported or state that you would have supported neither.

• Explain why you would have supported the party you identified or why you would not have supported either party. Make sure to include specific examples to support your position. You must connect this explanation to the political positions of the two political parties mentioned. (Do not for example just tell me that you liked the names of the political parties).

The response should include a reference list. Using double-space, Times New Roman 12 pnt font, one-inch margins, and APA style of writing and citations.
