Problem
Michelle Carter was charged with involuntary manslaughter for the suicide death of Conrad Roy. Carter's conviction is upheld on appeal, even though there is no statute directly penalizing Carter's behavior. The legislature in your state passes a new law penalizing such behavior. You vote "yes" for this new law. A local newspaper asks you for an interview to discuss your "yes" vote. Explain why you voted "yes" using one of the theories of punishment outlined in Chapter 2 of Dressler's Book (i.e., utilitarianism, retributivism, or denunciation).
