b. Explain why twisting improves the performance of network cabling (100 words).
c. Explain how network data is sent over an optical fiber cable and why the light stays within the cable. List the four main benefits of optical cable, when compared with metallic cable (100 words).
Question 2.
a. Contrast routers and switches by explaining how each learn about the networks that they are connected to. You should include relevant factors about layers, protocols, types of addresses and tables (500 words)
b. Explain how a host A is able to send a packet to a host B that belongs to a different subnet 1 hop away. Your explanation should include a table showing any addresses contained in packets or frames at switches and routers.
Question 3.
All parts of this question are about IP addresses. You can only gain full marks if you show your working and/or explanations. Giving just a numeric answer will not be sufficient.
a. The IP address allocated to a network administrator is 194.24.93.0/24. You should subnet this address so that you will assign subnet addresses to 3 Subnets with 100 hosts, 2 with 60 hosts, and two with 20 hosts. Also, you should assign subnet addresses to the serial links that interconnect those subnets (bus topology).
