Discussion Post: Military Social Work
Part I:
Review this resources, including the media on the military veterans on whom you focused throughout this course. Revisit their stories and consider their successes related to their trauma and traumatic reactions. What inspired you about their stories? If you know an active duty military personnel or veteran who inspired you, you may share this example in lieu of the media. For this Discussion, select one veteran that has inspired you.
Post the identity of the veteran that you selected. Explain what inspired you about his or her story and his or her success in addressing their traumatic reactions. As a social worker, explain how this story can help to ignite your passion in working with active duty military personnel, veterans, and their families.
Part II:
Although many strides have been made in the area of services and research for active duty military personnel, veterans, and their families, much more needs to be done. After taking this course, analyzing the literature related to trauma, crisis, and stress for active duty military personnel and veterans, is there any area that is specifically interesting for you? Are there additional areas in which you feel more research and data needs to be gathered so helping professionals may effectively support this population? For this Discussion, review this resources and the current literature.
Post area related to trauma, crisis, and stress that you might be interested in when working with active duty military or veterans (e.g., female veterans, sexual assault/harassment, combat trauma, PTSD, family support, TBI) and explain why. Then describe one area that you might be interested in researching further or an area where more research needs to done related to trauma, crisis, and stress for this population. Finally, explain one way you could be a social change agent working with active duty military, veterans, or their families.
