Explain type of filler metal and welding process


You are manufacturing a frame for a vehicle out of some aluminum alloy 6061-T451 tubing. The frame is to be welded together. The designer specifies that the properties for 6061-T451 are:

ultimate strength = 35 ksi minimum From ASTM Handbook

yield strength = 21 ksi minimum Vol. 2, 9th Ed.,

% elongation = 25% minimum P. 61.

1. Specify the type of filler metal and the welding process that you will use.

2. Discuss what you think the properties will be at the end of the welding process in the vicinity of the welds. Will they meet the specification? If not, specify exactly what should be done to meet the requirements. (You had better think here and know exactly what T451 means)
