You are a reporter or photojournalist and your editor has given you a new assignment. She wants you to give a short, two- to three-paragraph article about the militarization AND/OR privatization of public space in New York City. In the article, you should document this phenomenon in journalistic fashion. Pick a building, park, street corner, mall, bus stop, plaza, field, etc. that you think best exemplifies this phenomenon in the New York City area, and describe it in detail for the readership. Explain to your readers how its design, surveillance and/or policing discourage some types of people from using what should be a public place. Include at least one photo -- you can surf the internet for a digital example of "fortress" architecture, or you can go out and take photos yourself.
