Explain to one colleague by suggesting ways to avoid the consequences they described below of deciding on a research question without conducting a thorough review of the literature.
When we decide on a research question prior to conducting review of the literature, our questions can become too broad. This poses many problems, one of which is that there are essentially too many sources. We may find it difficult to hone in on what our actual research question may be, what data needs to be collected and what methods we can sort and analyze the data with. (Yegidis et al., 2018, p. 84)
