Explain the social constructionist view of deviance. In your answer, consider the types of questions asked by constructionists. Include in your explanation the concept of social control, which is central to the constructionist perspective. Define the terms formal and informal social control, providing an example for each.

Question: 2 Crime and Deviance
How is the category of crime distinguished from the general concept of deviance? Are the two concepts completely separate and distinct, or are there some attitudes, behaviors, and conditions that may be shaded more grey in color? In you answer, consider the establishment of common and statutory law in the U.S. and the process of codifying attitudes, behaviors, and characteristics considered detrimental to society into law.
Also try to address how a positivist approach may differ from a constructionist approach in addressing this distinction. In addition to any philosophical differences between the two approaches, consider the types of data used in each approach, how those data are collected and analyzed, and what limitations might exist.
