Explain the sequence of events

Read the "Emotions and Retailing" conference summary. It includes several principles of how to infuse or leverage emotions in retail. For example, In-store music and temperate play a role in creating emotions.

0) Recruit a friend to go on a shopping trip or restaurant visit with you.

1) Visit somewhere in Arcata. Ca

2) You are the "researcher" and your friend is the "consumer". Follow your friend around the store or have a meal with your friend (if you picked a restaurant). Take good notes how your friend is feeling during the experience. When do emotions change? How do they change? Record something your friend is saying or feeling every few minutes. For example, while waiting to be seated at a restaurant, your friend may feel "anxious" or "bored", or "excited". After being seated at the table, what is the next emotion your friend is feeling? Why? Take detailed notes of each major "scene" or "part" of the shopping or restaurant experience.

3) Write your findings up as a report detailing emotions and experiences from start to finish. Divide your report into scenes to explain the sequence of events. For example, for a restaurant, this may include:

1) Arriving

2) Finding parking

3) Waiting to be seated

4) Being seated at a table

5) Reading menus

6) Waiting

7) Choosing appetizers/drinks/entrees

8) Waiting

9) Receiving drinks

10) Receiving appetizers...

and so forth

4) Critically analyze the experience. What does the store/restaurant do well? Where could they improve? What would you suggest?

You will be evaluated on thoughtfulness and thoroughness
