You are the Chief of Police for a densely-populated urban police department. You've read the court cases mentioned above and the Chandler Police Department (2013) general order on pursuit driving. Your agency does not yet have a general order regarding the PIT maneuver (Pursuit Intervention Technique, or the Precision Immobilization Technique).
Write a policy that outlines the use of this technique by officers. You may model your policy after the Chandler PD (2013) general order regarding the types of considerations required before using PIT.
- Conduct research on policies of at least two other agencies before writing your policy.
- Conduct research on safety and risks to PIT.
Cite all sources and use APA format to create a policy that conveys your philosophy and orders on the use of PIT. The policy should be applicable to most situations and consider common hazards that may present themselves to your officers. The policy must be 5 to 6 double-spaced pages in length.

4. Case Study:
Ms. Smith is the new security manager for a large retail establishment selling consumer electronic equipment. She is responsible to ensure inventory shrinkage is kept to an absolute minimum. Inventory shrinkage occurs in many different way one of which is through persons entering the store and committing theft.
In order to reduce store theft, Ms. Smith attempted to improved security in two areas. First; she hired several new security officers to work as "plain clothes" store detectives and second; she installed a video surveillance system.
On the day the new security officers started their job as store detectives, a person behaving in a suspicious manner entered the store, proceeded to the section of the store where accessories for cell phones and other personal digital devices were displayed, removed an item from the display and placed it inside his coat pocket. He then immediately headed for the store exit. As he was walking out of the front door, one of the new store detectives, who observed the suspicious person place a cell phone accessory in his coat pocket without paying for it, approached the suspicious person and detained him from leaving the area.
