Assignment Project: Historic Site Research Project
Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is for the learner to visit a historical site and provide an analysis based on observations and supporting research.
Objectives: Each learner will conduct research using a variety of research tools beyond the print medium. analyze material and clearly articulate their ideas.
Properly use and reference facts and ideas they have uncovered while conducting their research. Relate classroom material with a practical experience.
Directions: my topic is museum I provide a link just open that link then you have all Canada history interest places but you have to choose royal Alberta museum
Step 1: Visit a historical site.
Pick a site of interest to you that is significant to Canadian history. Museums, ghost towns, heritage buildings, or interpretative centres are potential sites (not internet sites or prehistory sites; that is, no dinosaurs), but possible locations will be discussed in class. It is highly recommended that you discuss your choice with your instructor prior to visiting the site.
Step 2: Observation and analysis.
Provide an analysis based on your visit to the site and additional research that responds to the following questions.
1. Give a brief description of the site. Photos or pictures may be included.
2. Current operation and organization
a. Identify the organization that established the site.
b. Identify the organization currently responsible for operating the site.
c. Identify the type of organization (non-profit, government, community, private) operating the site.
d. Describe the funding sources of the organization.
e. Does the site have a designation as a historic site?
3. Timeline
a. When was the current site or organization established?
b. If it is different, what was the timeframe of the original site?
4. Location and Purpose
a. What was the original purpose of the site?
b. Is the location of the current site significant?
c. Is the current site different from the original location?
d. Is the site original, a re-creation or a restoration?
5. Information
a. How is information at the site portrayed and organized?
b. How is the information interpreted?
6. Effectiveness
a. What was most effective about the site?
b. What areas of the site could be improved?
c. Would you visit again or recommend the site to a friend?
7. a. What part of history does the site reflect? (e.g. event, culture, people, trend)
b. Describe and explain the relevant aspects of Canadian history reflected at the site.
c. What is the significance of the site to Canadian history?
8. How does the site relate to class discussion and material?
9. References
a. Identify any interviews or discussions with site staff.
b. Provide APA references for all sources.
Format:
The assignment is to include a title page, page numbering and headings as indicated. The structure of the project will be as follows:
o Title page
- Your name and Lethbridge College ID, title of paper, course name and number, instructor's name and date
o Observations and Analysis
- Use the questions from the Direction section above as subheadings, and provide an
answer in paragraph format.
o Reference page
The analysis must be written in your own words using appropriate references and in APA research essay format using in-text citations.
Complete sentences with proper grammar, spelling, sentence structure, and paragraphs are expected.
