Prepare a four to five minute audio-visual presentation or a PowerPoint of at least 10 to 15 slides on one health informatics topic from the provided list.

Topic

During this course we explore many different components of health informatics. Pick a topic of interest to you to prepare your audio-visual presentation. Your presentation should reflect new information and not recap information learned in this course or another course.

Step 1: Choose one topic from the following list:

4. The evolving ePatient

5. International efforts, issues and innovations related to informatics

6. Simulation in health care

7. Analytics and design-led innovations and management

8. Big data: challenges, opportunities, and realities

9. Incorporating mobile devices and sensors into daily routines

  • The potential impact for mHealth is enormous; an individual might spend 15 minutes or less per year with a primary-care physician, whereas the same person has nearly constant contact with a mobile device.

10. Applying clinical care guidelines on, and within, mobile platforms

11. Gathering and using data, particularly intensive longitudinal data, to study effectiveness of an mHealth intervention

12. Consumer informatics

13. Applications of social media in health care

14. Biomedical applications based on sensor data

15. Chronic disease management and preventative solutions

Content

The four to five-minute presentation should be set up as a staff educational session on your selected topic.

Step 2:

  • Define your topic and explain its relevance to health informatics.
  • Describe any ethical issues associated with your topic.
  • Describe any associated laws, regulations, or voluntary standards relevant to the topic.
  • Explain how the topic relates to or impacts health care delivery, administration, education, data administration or research.
  • Summarize associated data capture tools and technologies.
  • Describe a specific example of your topic in use in health care.

You have a choice of which format you wish to present your findings. You can choose either a four to five format or a ten to fifteen PowerPoint presentation format. Follow the instructions below for the option you choose.

Option 1: Audio-visual Format

To meet the audiovisual requirement for this assignment, your project must include visuals that support your finding or a narrative dialogue that meets the requirements of step one and step two above; however, the format that you want to structure your assignment is up to you. For any videos created with a third party platform such as YouTube, Vimeo, Screencast-O-Matic etc. you must copy the link to your video and paste it into a Word document, and upload that Word document utilizing the Waypoint Assignment submission button at the bottom of this page.

Review the following list of suggested free software:

  • Screencast-O-Matic is a freely available online tool that allows you to create and share screencasts. Review the Screencast-O-Matic Quick-Start Guide for more information to help you get started.
  • You may also search on your own to locate a program of your choice.

The Final Project

Must be four to five minutes in length, and it should cover all the requirements listed in step 1 and step 2 below.

Your PowerPoint presentation must be at least 10 to 15 slides (not including title and reference slides) with a required presenter's Voice notation for each slide with additions to detailed speaker notes. You may want to look at How to Make a PowerPoint Presentation  to get started. Pay attention to APA Style and formatting in this Ashford Writing Center's guide. APA guidelines are required in presentations and any scholarly work you create.
