How do I respond engagingly to my peer when they say this The principal functions of vitamins include supporting metabolism, promoting growth and tissue repair, and strengthening the immune system. Vitamins are essential to life because the body either cannot produce them or produces them in insufficient amounts. Without adequate intake, even mild deficiencies can lead to serious health problems such as fatigue, weakened immunity, poor healing, anemia, or bone disorders. Over time, deficiencies may increase the risk of chronic diseases and reduce overall quality of life. In my opinion, the most important vitamins are Vitamin D, Vitamin C, and the B-complex vitamins. Vitamin D is especially critical due to its role in bone health and immune function, and deficiency is common. Vitamin C is essential for immune support, collagen formation, and antioxidant protection. The B vitamins, particularly B12 and folate, are crucial for energy metabolism, neurological function, and red blood cell production. Reference Whitney, E., & Rolfes, S. R. (2019).
