The major classes of lipids are simple lipids (acylglycerols and waxes); Compound lipids (glycerophospholipids); Derived lipids (compounds that are not simple or compound lipids) example, Carotenoids and vitamins. Acylglycerols are the glycerol esters of fatty acids which make up to 99% of the lipids of plant and animal origin.
