Explain the ethical and social implications and how they

Social and ethical concerns with technology

Mark Twain once said, ‘There is no such thing as a new idea'. Considering how long human society has lasted, this statement may very well be true. However, it is not always creation of new ideas that changes the way society might function. Sometimes, it is the enhancement of old ideas or seeing ways to use them in a new way. Other times, it is the combination of such ideas into some new entity. In the case of technology, this is known as ‘technological convergence'.

The premiere example of technological convergence is that of the Smartphone. With a device roughly the size of your palm, you can take pictures and video, browse the Web and even use Satellite Navigation to get directions to just about anywhere. However, with new technological advancements also come new concerns for individual freedoms, autonomy and privacy. For this Assignment, your task is to analyse additional concerns that you believe might have social and ethical implications as a result of converging technologies.

To complete this Assignment:

Submit a paper in which you analyse at least three concerns (other than freedoms, autonomy and privacy) that you believe might have social and ethical implications and are a result of converging technologies. In your analysis, summarise each concern and explain the ethical and social implications and how they relate to converging technologies. Justify your choices by analysing how these implications affect people and/or society.
