Instructions: Ports provide critical facilities to support international shipping as well as maritime shipping for economic trade within the United States. Assume that you are a U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) staff officer. Then, develop a paper about port security that addresses the following:
1. Identify developments in securing the nation's ports that have occurred since September 11, 2001.
2. Explain how the dual threats of terrorism and natural disasters have affected port security. Provide examples to illustrate your findings.
3. Determine if ports are more secure today than on September 11, 2001. Then, explain why or why not.
4. Identify recommendations for future action.
5. Support your paper with at least five scholarly or professional resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including older articles, may be included.
