Analysis shows that the quantitative relationship between malnutrition and mortality is remarkably consistent across various populations representing diverse ecological, disease and cultural environments. The percentage of all malnutrition-related deaths that occur in mildly and moderately malnourished children can also be estimated from weight-for- age prevalence data.
