Problem:

In the 1530s, a church in Seville, Spain commissioned a painting for their altar known as the Virgin of the Navigators. In it, the Virgin Mary watches over the Spanish fleets as they explore the "New World" and draw together peoples from different continents. To the right and left of the Virgin Mary are other scenes. For this assignment, you will be using the altarpiece to explain how the Spanish viewed their explorations and conquests of the New World.

Instructions:

Below is a picture of the altarpiece containing the Virgin of the Navigators and the side pieces. Study the picture be sure to notice the roles of the people depicted, the props used in the picture (sword, pen the scenes depicted, symbols (halo)
