Problem 1: What is the main social problem that your organization focuses on?
The primary social problem BLAST is trying to address poor educational and social performance in low-income youth. They aim to increase the number of high-school graduates and motivate them to achieve higher education and a professional career by promoting the youths' assets and strengths. Children in low-income families have insufficient access to resources which negatively affects their academic success, thus leaving much enduring emotional stress and developing a negative outlook for the future.
Problem 2: Describe the narrative that currently exist for the population that your organization serves that may exacerbate the social issue or keep the target population from changing. In other words, how do stories potentially impact the manifestation of community engagement and stress? How do the current stories and narratives of/about the community contribute to the social problem? Incorporate explicitly points from the readings and lectures.
Problem 3: What could you do in your role as a community organizer by way of a narrative that you feel may improve the community you are working with? What new narrative relevant to your target population could be created that would exemplify community activism? How would you go about creating such a narrative?
