I. Mr. Matthews is a first-year history teacher. He wants his students to retain as much of the information that he teaches as possible. What technique(s) should Mr. Matthews use to ensure that his students retain the information?

II. On Monday, your parents tell you that you have a doctor appointment immediately after school on Thursday. When Thursday comes, you forget to go to your doctor appointment. Explain several reasons why you may have forgotten.

III. Your science teacher makes the statement that, "Intelligence is inherited and cannot be changed no matter how hard you try". Prepare an argument for your science teacher that emphasizes nurture as an element of intelligence.

IV. Two students in the same class take a test. One student earns an "A" while the other earns an "F" even though they were in class equal amounts of time. V. After graduating from college, you move back to your hometown and begin hanging out with all your high school friends. One night you sit down and begin recalling exciting events from high school. Your friend shares a story about prom and how exciting it was for him because he is now married to his prom date. You attended prom with the two of them, but you remember the story differently. Explain how/why your memories of the same event are different.

VI. When it is time to train your children how to ride a bicycle, you hop on an old bike you borrowed from a friend to demonstrate even though you haven't ridden a bike for over 10 years. Riding the bike is still something that is easily remembered. However, when it comes time to sit down with your children and help them with their math homework, you cannot remember how to do the problems. How can the different types of long-term memory explain this scenario?
