Problem

1) Why does correlation note equal causation? Be sure to fully support your answer and provide, at least, one example.

2) Explain nature vs. nurture AND the mind/body debates.

3) Define hypnosis, flow, and meditation and give examples of each. These examples should also provide times when they can or are used.

4) Name the four roadblocks to critical thinking and provide a definition and/or example for each.

5) Explain the two modes of our nervous systems. Give a few physiological changes that happen for each. Finally, explain why one of the two system modes you just explained would shut down certain systems - like inhibiting the GI system processing food.

6) The brain has 4 primary areas we have discussed in class. Those 4 sections have additional subsections. name all 4 sections and subsections as well as listing what each section controls. For example, the occipital and temporal lobes share a subsection called the fusiform face area that is in charge of face recognition.

7) Discuss the various sleep stages (i.e., NREM and REM). Then, list, at least, 5 things that are good sleep hygiene AND why they are good for your sleep.

8) Give the three levels of psychological analysis used to try and explain behavior or mental processes. Also, give 2 examples of each.

9) What are the names of the neurotransmitters we've discussed in class and what functions does each provide? (Hint: there are 7 neurotransmitters)

10) Who is Pheinea Gage and what happened to him? Why was this case so important to the field of psychology?

11) Name the 4 classes of psychoactive drugs discussed in class and list the neurotransmitter systems involved in each. Some neurotransmitter systems are related to multiple drugs.

12) Define consciousness, then differentiate between what is subjective versus objective. Give one example for something subjective and one for something objective.
