DQ 1: Emerging technology

Technologies within the IT field grow, change and evolve at a rapid pace. As you might expect, the successful implementation of new technologies can lead to boons for organisations such as improved productivity, greater quality of goods and/or services and expedited timelines. Nevertheless, the adoption of technology has several challenges that extend beyond just its cost. As was stated in your Lecture Notes, these challenges include the availability of resources and expertise on the technology, compatibility with current technology and overall complexity. Nonetheless, these examples are far from the total number of benefits and issues that implementing new technologies can create.

Take a moment to look at some of the latest emergences of technology in your field. What does the technology allow you, or an organisation as a whole, to do better? What are the technology's shortcomings? Chances are your initial look at emerging technology does not produce a comprehensive listing that fully answers these questions. However, such is the purpose of this Discussion. Based on a specific emerging technology of your choosing, your task is to analyse its potential benefits and any problems that may arise from implementation.

To complete this Discussion:

Post: Create an initial post in which you analyse the benefits and problems that adopting and implementing an emerging technology might elicit for an organisation. Provide specific examples that support your arguments. Furthermore, provide a summary of your selected technology to provide context for your colleagues (you may wish to provide links to your selected technology for your colleagues to learn more). Fully state and justify any choices, assumptions or claims that you make using the suggested Learning Resources for this week and/or your own research.

Respond: Respond to your colleagues.

DQ 2:Reflection

Whether it is for your own personal edification or the innovation of new and improved processes within an organisation, reflecting on what you did in past projects is an exemplary way to grow. Such can be even more effective when you can compare experiences with others, as you can occasionally garner insights you may not have gained otherwise (such as avoiding a mistake a colleague made).

For your final Discussion, review what you have studied in this module and reflect upon the different learning experiences you had. Have any preconceptions, thoughts and expectations you previously had towards managing software enterprises changed over the course of this module? What did you read, write or discuss that altered those preconceptions, thoughts and expectations? Reflect on these questions and share your thoughts with your colleagues. Then, explain how you will apply your learning experiences from this module, and the knowledge you have gained, in the future.

To complete this Discussion:

Post: Create an initial post in which you summarise your feelings about what you learned or achieved over the course of this module. Explain how what you read, wrote or discussed impacted your preconceptions, thoughts and expectations towards managing software enterprises. Then, explain how you will apply your learning experiences from this module, and the knowledge you have gained, towards other modules in this programme and/or your work.

Respond: While it is necessary to post an initial response here, your responses to colleagues are welcomed but not required
